Something Happened Upstairs at Mahan
There are stories you plan to tell.
And occasionally there are stories that simply happen.
During winemaking upstairs at Mahan, two people heard footsteps.
Clear, unmistakable footsteps.
They stopped what they were doing and went to see who had entered the room.
No one had.
Two People Heard the Same Thing
Neither person involved considers themselves particularly interested in ghosts.
Which perhaps makes the story more interesting.
There was no dramatic conclusion. No explanation discovered later.
Just footsteps.
And an empty room.
We Haven't Decided What to Make of It
Old spaces collect stories.
Mahan Speakeasy has always traded a little in mystery: an undisclosed entrance, a Secret Door, candlelight downstairs and evenings that seem pleasantly removed from whatever is happening outside.
We hadn't intended to add unexplained footsteps to the list.
Yet here we are.
October Behind the Secret Door
Mahan Speakeasy opens to the public October 3 and October 17.
We'll pour the wine.
The piano will play.
The candles will be lit.
As for upstairs?
We'll leave that part of the evening to itself.
