New Buffalo’s Favorite Vintage Release Dinner at Mahan Wines - First Pour of the new Vintage
Introducing Our Vintage Release Dinner
Each August, as the vineyard settles into late summer and the previous harvest is finally bottled, we gather for our most anticipated evening of the year — the Annual Vintage Release Dinner. This celebration marks the first official pouring of our newly bottled vintage, shared with guests around a long table in the vineyard.
Unlike a traditional tasting, this evening is designed as a relaxed yet refined vineyard dinner. The pace is intentional: conversation, courses, and wine unfolding gradually as daylight softens into twilight and candles begin to glow across the table.
This year’s celebration debuts the new estate vintage, bottled just weeks before the event and served for the first time during the evening.
An Evening Designed Around the First Pour
The Annual Vintage Release Dinner follows the rhythm of a summer evening in the vineyard. Guests arrive to a welcoming reception before being seated at a long harvest table set among the vines. A plated first course opens the meal, followed by a seasonal buffet designed to allow guests to enjoy the evening at their own pace. Dessert is served as the sky deepens and candlelight becomes the centerpiece of the table.
Throughout the evening, the newly released vintage is introduced, discussed, and shared — not as a formal tasting, but as part of a celebratory dinner. The winemaker offers remarks from the end of the table, providing insight into the growing season, harvest decisions, and what makes the new vintage distinctive.
This is the first opportunity each year to experience the wine as it was intended: paired with food, conversation, and the setting where it was grown.
The Setting at Twilight
As the evening progresses, the vineyard shifts into twilight. Candles flicker along the length of the table, glasses are raised for toasts, and the newly released vintage is shared among friends old and new. The final moments of the dinner arrive just as the last light settles over the vineyard — a quiet, memorable close to the celebration.
This is the spirit of the Annual Vintage Release Dinner: the completion of a year in the vineyard, celebrated together at one long table.
